Welcome class of 2028 members and families! Below you will find the dates of our scheduled information sessions in the summer webinar series. Please do your best to attend, as this is a great way to learn about E.O. We can’t wait to meet you in person, but in the meantime, we look forward to helping you transition to our school with the information you will receive in these sessions. The webinar link is at the bottom of this email. Recordings of webinars will be emailed directly to families after the session has concluded.
The time to start building a cohesive class is now. Please check in with the people you know who have students in the class of 2028 to be sure they have received this message. If you have received this in error and your child is not attending E.O. next fall, please reply to Lou DeLoreto- principal at ldeloreto@eosmith.org.

IMPORTANT DATES

Monday, August, 19th - First day of tryouts for fall sports. Please see the athletics page for details.

Thursday, August 22nd - Class of 2028 orientation from 12:00-2:00. We will provide small group sessions and a tour of the building by our Peer Natural Helpers. Photo IDs will also be taken. No need to sign up in advance. The Peer Natural Helper assigned to your student will be in touch during the last week of July and first week in August. Lunch will not be provided.

Thursday, August 29th - First day of school for class of 2028 ONLY. We will take you through the 8-period school day using your personal schedule in order to give you a chance to meet all of your teachers and get settled into your lunch period. This is a great opportunity for you to meet as a class and have the building to yourselves.

Thursday, September 19th - Open House 6:00pm

Wednesday, June 26 12:00 p.m.

Welcome and introduction of athletic director Mr. Dan Uriano (duriano@eosmith.org). Mr. Uriano will guide students and families through our athletic program goals and team offerings. Mr. Uriano will also take participants through the athletics page on our school website which has information on medical clearance, resources and forms, teams and contact information for coaches, and important fall start dates and team schedules.

Wednesday, August 7 12:00 p.m.

Welcome and introductory session on accessing school email, Canvas, and PowerSchool and completing the intake registration form. Assistant principals Dave Tanner (dtanner@eosmith.org) and Karen Paruolo (kparuolo@eosmith.org) will take you through how to set up your accounts and enter important emergency and demographic information.

Wednesday, August 14 12:00 p.m.

Welcome and introduction to E.O. Smith by principal Dr. DeLoreto and superintendent Ms. Cournoyer. Dr. DeLoreto (ldeloreto@eosmith.org) and Ms. Cournoyer (scournoyer@eosmith.org) will take students and families through our theory of action and priorities for the 2024-25 school and beyond.

Wednesday, August 21 12:00 p.m.

Welcome and introduction to school counseling by Ms. Renee Najarian (rnajarian@eosmith.org), director of school counseling. Ms. Najarian will take students and families through the process of accessing your course schedule and school counseling services. Special services director Steve Bayne (sbayne@eosmith.org) will provide an overview of the CT-SEDS system for students receiving special services.

BUS SCHEDULES:

There are no late buses.

STUDENT DROP OFF

Students can be dropped off at the Superintendents entrance (North - first right into our main entrance) or the south parking lot (across from Price Chopper). The earliest drop off time is 6:45 AM. The main entrance can be utilized if the buses are not occupying the parking lot, please drive to the furthest point of the lot to drop off your child to prevent overflow onto Bolton Rd. The North and South doors will close by 7:20am each morning. Students should be dropped off at the main entrance after 7:20. Once students are dropped off on-campus, they may not leave campus unless they are a senior who signs out with a Blue Card.

EARLY DISMISSAL/STUDENT PICK UP

Please provide a note or phone call for early dismissals. The student should come to main office to receive a pass. You do not need to enter the building for your student to be released. Please note: if you are picking up near dismissal time (1:30 PM - 2:00 PM) Please park in the lower parking lot or an alternative parking lot (across the street, community center, etc.) to avoid disrupting bus arrivals.

If you would like to deposit money into your student's account, please visit: https://www.mansfieldct.gov/1595/Lunch-Menus-Online-Payment. You will need child's Student Number, which is located in their PowerSchool account. If you need any help, please call the main office at 860-487-0877.

Student/Parent Introduction to Canvas presentation

Parents will have two ways to connect with their student's learning progress in Canvas. The first is through the Canvas App for Parents (available for IOS and Android phones). On the right is a short video introducing about the Parent App and how to set this up for your student (note: Your student will need to be able to access their Canvas courses to get the pairing code). The App provides an excellent global view of progress, but if you want to be able to see a more granular level of detail, you want to consider option 2 below.

Step 1: Download the Canvas Parent App (IOS or Android)

Step 2: Find our school - Type E. O. Smith (the space between the E and O is important - see image on the right) - select Parent/Guardian option Select School image

Step 3: Create an Account - use the link under "Parent of a Canvas User" - see image on right

2) OBSERVE STUDENT ACCOUNT (ACCESS ON LAP OR DESKTOP)

If parents want to observe their students actual classes, they are able to log into Canvas using the credentials they created by logging in at :
